How to safely remove an hard disk in a usb enclosure?
I used the safely remove feature in winxp, but my hard disk is still ON and there are still sounds. Will it be safe to just plug it out or switch it to OFF at the back of the enclosure? Is this the same thing happening in my pc during a shut down?
How can I recover data from a hard disk that is formatted in win3.1 or win95 on an XP comp via usb enclosure?
I have an old hard disk that is either win3.1 or win 95. I have attached it to a usb hard drive enclosure to a win xp machine. XP will recognise the enclosure and disk but the hard drive will not appear on the " my computer" panel. I would like to copy this very ancient data.

My intent was to transfer files from old hd to new hd. when i plugged in the old hd it accepted the device. I checked by going into device mgr. and then disks and it appears as the 2nd device after my sata drive. But there is no icon, nor have I found any other way to to move the files. IDE-to-USB enclosure. Why isn't it working?
Basically I set the jumper to master, and nothing is happening. The computer recognizes it's a hard drive, but it's not showing under my computer. After going into Computer Management, it showed that it's Unknown and Unreadable. What's going on? Wiaam T I didn't format it, but I don't know how. I'm using Vista now, and the steps for XP are different. Can you please tell me where to format it on Vista? Also, is it possible to not format it? Because if I do format it, won't I lose all my data on there?
Why must I format a used drive? USB enclosure with 2.5 used laptop hard drive?
I have a used laptop hard driver in an ide to usb enclosure. After installing drivers the laptop drive appears in " My Computer." When I click to access the drive a window appears saying " The disk in drive H is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" I do not want to format it now or ever, for that matter.THe laptop drive is connected to a desktop via ide to usb enclosure. THe computer it is connected to is running Windows 98.Also, a side note. THe usb cable supplied with the enclosure has a usb plug on one end and 2 usb plugs on the other. Why is that?THanks
What 2.5" External USB enclosure should I get for my 80GB Seagate drive?
Hey all, I just sold a laptop that doesn't function anymore but the hard drive is still good and I've got data such as family pictures on there that are important to me. I'm planning to hook up my old hard drive to my current computer so that I could my important data on CDs. However, I've heard that some external USB enclosures are risky to use because they do not allow proper airflow to the hard drive and they end up running so hot that they fry. I don't want to pay a big load, but I'd rather do that than lose some of the family pictures I have on the drive. So what is an external USB enclosure for a 2.5" laptop hard drive that will allow proper airflow and allow me to retrieve this data? Thanks

I have an NTFS dynamic SATA drive in a USB enclosure. I can't get any other computer to read the drive?
I've messed around with partitions and ntfs, fat16 32 before, but I'm not completely sure what I'm doing. I have a usb enclosure that I put a hard drive in, and its formatted ntfs as a dynamic disk. I now realize i should have made it a basic drive, but I use this drive for backup and now I'm worried that I won't be able to recover anything off of it if my computer crashes. Is that true? How can i get another computer to read this drive?I use vista, but i have an old xp sp2 laptop. when I plug the drive into the xp laptop, it detects the drive but can't see any volumes on it. A mac also didn't work.
